Thanks to Kev and his car, we’re not always confine to the darn old canteen food or the other food place up the street within the Science Park 2 vicinity. So Kev, if you’re reading – you know how much we love you, right?!! Hehe
Last Friday, Kev suggested we head out to Colbar for lunch. I’ve heard about the 60-year old restaurant and it’s own little history but have not found a chance to visit the place. Love the fact that its a only a quick 10 mins drive from the office and transports you right into this rustic, away from urbanization little neighborhood.
The entrance to Colbar reminds me of my grandmother’s old house and factory in Lim Chu Kang, from my vague memories of summer trips back to Singapore when I was 8 or 9 year old. Colbar has retain it’s iconic history through the use of roof tiles, timber screens, and solid timber swing doors, all of which were dismantled from the original Colbar. The little treasures lining the counter or walls gives off a charming touch and glimpse of Singapore in the 60s.
The menu consist of local and western delights, all of us opt for the local delights (well, except for the plate of wedges) of hor fun and dried mee this time round. I wouldn’t say the food was fantastic, rather mediocre but being in such a surrounding it kinda makes up for it. Kailin did comment on the ‘wok hei‘ (charred, cooked at high temperature) taste in her plate of hor fun, which indeed brings a fragrant crisp to the dish. I’m not a huge fan of charred taste, hence don’t think I’ll be trying that next time I’m there.
With that said, I don’t mind visiting the place again for lunch, the kick-back atmosphere and cozy setting does make one forget about the piles of work back in the office, especially when there’s comfort food and light banters with the work peeps.
We need more of such Friday lunches – where shall we head this coming week?!
