Yesterday evening was the parental night. We had a late reservation at Spago Lounge, saw a long queue when we arrived and even though, our table was ready for us – I was feeling more of a nicer sit-down meal at the dining hall and was thrilled they were able to accommodate the change. At Spago, I much prefer the outdoor seating area, especially if it’s later part of the evening – the lovely evening breeze, the lit up CBD skyline and the less (er) crowd at the infinity pool at night does look rather splendid.

Decided to accord yesterday evening’s dinner as my cheat meal – we opt for 4 starters and 1 main. Being a bigger fan of their sea and land selections – two mains wouldn’t be ideal at 9:45 pm. The warm eggplant salad was hearty with a nice dose of goat cheese and sesame, the ‘kaya toast’ (seared foie gras with jam on toasted brioche) is Dad’s all-time favourite, and the grilled Iberico pork (mains) was so beautifully done with the right amount of fat and the tastiest of accompaniments – fuji apple, mushrooms spread across a gently tossed mustard sauce.

Dad and I had a glass of Bowmore 12 yo neat, Mum chose something from the cocktail list – we kept to our alcohol quota as we talked the night away, chipping away some of the harder topic with a quick ‘ganbei’, our cue to move on to a lighter topic and to order dessert.
