Earlier this week in Taipei, M and I spent a lovely night sipping on our Bowmore 15 along with our chosen 5 course meal at S hotel. M decided to take an early retirement last year, even though she’s a good 6 years away from the stipulated retirement age. Her days are filled with meal preps for both her and husband, afternoon hikes and 3x a week flamenco classes. Let’s not count the 4 (or more) annual trips she makes a year.

I love the life she and her husband has built for themselves sans children, not an intentional choice but one they have embraced and learnt to built a gracious life/lifestyle with great fortitude. I fondly remember one gathering, which she threw her head back in laughter, flashed her wide grin and said ‘our (her and her husband) aim is to live the F out of this lifetime and spend all our money before we kick the bucket’.

She loves to lecture me on love and relationships – and out of respect, I’ll listen and nod my head. Her latest advice was for me to heed the following ‘ take care of your emotions, and allow him to do the rest’. I am pretty sure she knows that won’t fly with me.

On her recent trip to France, she came back with a lovely ‘Aker Fassi’ from Buly 1803 for me – I love the smell from the terracotta, the lovely blush of colour on my lips and (when I feel like it) a dab on the cheek -to give off that rosy glow that I dearly need from all the late nights of journal readings and assignments.

Now, M – I’ll always heed your advice on life’s passion and anything from Shiatzy.
