On my recent trip back to New York, pretty much everyone that I met and spoke with couldn’t stop talking or recommending ‘farm to table’ restaurants to us. Many of the recommendations were of restaurants advocating a certain social cause, mainly towards the direct acquisition of local produces from the main source.
As majority of our time were spent upstate New York, we were definitely in for a treat with some of the delicious local produces, sourced from the local farms. We had some pretty memorable meals, and on most days we were fuelled up with a hearty brunch and early dinner, with little to no snacking in between. Well, aside from the pit- stop for caffeine.
The three days that we were in Catskills, we paid daily visits to Shindig for their bowl of Hudson granola and organic yogurt. Second day onwards, we learnt to just simply order a bowl and breakfast wrap or the likes to share.

The highlight of one of our dinners in Phoenicia was at Peekamoose Restaurant – a rustic restaurant with modern innovation, and a menu that makes you want to try everything. I was set on ordering the ‘catskills farmers’ vegetable & grain plate’, however when the attendant heard it was our first trip – she gave us a stern ‘No’ and went you need to try our meat and seafood dishes, and order side veggies. I must say that we did good by soaking up her advice. The mains were splendid.
The wood grilled octopus not featured here as the picture came out shitty was mind-blowing – tender, slightly charred and marinated nicely with almond romesco and that nice dash of olive oil.
I can never depict well enough the good food that we’re so blessed to savour but one thing for sure, the joy of feasting and hearing the stories of dedication that goes into each meal preparation, is always a source of inspiration (for me).
