It’s become somewhat of a habit to bring my out of town guests to Chop Suey Cafe, especially those familiar with westernized Chinese food, from their years of living overseas/ordering Chinese take out :).
My Father (aka the Chef) may disagree with the quality of the food vs the price, but I am in favour of the atmosphere, simplicity and fusion twist to some of the dishes (i.e. jade fried rice, Szechuan tofu) and their black sesame martini. I highly recommend the latter, if you’re a black sesame lover like me – it’s creamy, luscious and good enough to double up as a dessert! A huge win for some of my guests is the menu allows for modification to their mainstream dishes (not all) to suit the vegetarian palate.
Our mains were served within a slow but acceptable pace, allowing us to sip on our martinis, nibble on our spring rolls and talk merrily, as we shared stories and snippets of the year past.
I am forseeing more of such dinners as the friends head into town to wrap up Q4/year- end work commits.
