The lovely B&B that we stayed in Hualien was in Jiamin village, perch on a mountain with a gorgeous view of Hualien County and if you look far enough – you’ll see the waves crashing against the majestic rocks that lines Qixingtan- right from their doorstep.

I wasn’t lucky enough to catch the sunrise due to the overcast and threatening showers the three days we were there, but I did enjoy spending time on the patio at 6 am, soaking up the tranquility of morning stillness, crisp mountain breeze and listening to the patters and rackets of the chickens coming out from the shed.

Breakfast was provided by the lovely host with the freshest of ingredients from their garden or made from scratch such as her radish cake or scallion pancake – which I’ll gladly go back for!

Day 1 – Scrambled eggs (courtesy of their resident chick), bacon, potato and garden salad – happily washed it down with a glass of freshly made soya milk (no sugar added)

Day 2 – Beautiful array of cut fruits, steamed vegetables, and scallion pancake stuffed with ham and asparagus

Day 3: – Taiwanese porridge spread with fermented bean curd, pickles, chye poh (salted radish) omelette and the lovely host’s signature – radish cake

Being a fast eater,  it was an indulgence to slowly savor every morsel of a hearty breakfast made with such warmth and tenderness.
