Some of the good stuff to take note of this week;
  • Strike off a few to-dos on the work front and managed to do lunches away from the computer. Hurray! (to think back, I’ve been lunching out ever since the move to the new office premise – good sign!)
  • Making full use of my morning wait for the bus to chant prayers -indeed, it starts off the day on a good note with full awareness of my self and being
  • The suppressed K-drama addict in me has found a site with Eng subtitles. Heehaw!!
  • Great catch-ups with a secondary school friend and belated Bday celeb for the Bestie

Dean and Deluca

The upscale NY gourmet food store has found it’s way to the red dot and upon Asian shores. As much as I enjoy hip and modernalist eateries/ gourmet food stores, I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan – the village chick in me holds a penchant for eateries with old school charms, the likes of coffee shops and eating halls found in Asia or delis/diners in suburbs of upstate New York (Jewish delis were a huge part of my childhood) – don’t get me wrong there’s loads of delicatessens and diners sprawled over US, but the ones close to my heart is located within the main street of the town I grew up in.

Sorry to veer away from the night out at Dean and Deluca – caught up with an old secondary school friend, funny thing is we barely even spoke in secondary school but twist of fate and 10 years latter we met through the most wicked way – through her bestie (another sec school classmate) at my work place. The latter was unable to join, as she recently welcome her first bundle of joy, so us single babes decided to head out for a night of casual dining and girlie chats.

We opt for the somewhat healthier dinner option of salad and pastry/bread on the side. The price was pretty hefty for such a simple bowl of salad, which probably I can even whip up on my own *proud snicker*. Spied the other tables and it seems that majority of the customers opt for the all-day breakfast, which looked rather tempting  – especially the flap jacks and berries (can’t remb the name of the dish). Ok, guess that calls for a second visit 🙂

Took a stroll around the product aisle after dinner and loved some of the unique packaging of their sauces, teas, liquorice candies, sugar and other forms of condiments. The selection of truffle oils caught my eye and a trip back with the old man is needed to let him decide what is best for his latest culinary innovation.

Queen and Mangosteen (again) for the Bestie’s Belated Celebration

Back again, it’s way too convenient to get from work and I love the casual-hangout vibe it gives off. It does get pretty pack and noisy on Fridays, as in all other eateries come Friday night and weekends, but getting a good seat is still possible if you reach by 7pm.

The Bestie and I were there earlier for some frozen margaritas and finger food whilst waiting for the brat to get off from touch rugby training. We spent a good 1 hour munching and talking of her future plans. An over-due decision to embark on a new chapter in her life- gave her my full support and know the time away will be a great boost to her confidence, identity, and creativity as an educator.

Isn’t my brat turning into a gorgeous young lady? She’s got some awesome dress sense and zany sense of humour that leaves me with stitches from all the laughing. The night was certainly not short of hooting laughters from her reading out loud #singaporeshadesofgrey, obsession with some guy’s body and inside jokes shared amongst us three.

I said a silent prayer of gratitude on my bus ride home for these two in my life.
