The yearly HR conference on employment law (across APAC) took place last week and gave me two days away from the office. It was a nice change to be technically working but not in the office and not having to deal with the tons of emails and issues. Oh, pure work-luxury!

It was my first time participating in the conference and thoroughly enjoyed some of the employment law presentation and discussions topics, specifically for countries such as Indonesia (the presenter termed Indonesia’s employment law as a “problem child”) and Japan – where great tips were soaked up on the context of power harassment and mental illness. The latter were topics close to heart and real-life work issues that I spent a good 6 months dealing with last year, it was assuring to know and reinforce that the decisions made were not too off from the advice/suggestions these experts were churning out.
The bus journey to town every morning was  surprisingly smooth; plonking down in a window seat and drifting off to my own la-la land for the 45 mins journey was a therapeutic  start to the morning. The quick stop at KCF for a cup of coffee and egg tart in the morning, spurge on the sugar level needed to concentrate, focus and sustain my hunger pangs till lunch time (minimal breaks were given in between presentations).

If I had my way, I would be eating egg tarts every morning 🙂

On another note, today was the first ride on the sharetransport service to work. I’ve never been a ‘school bus’ kid and will need some adjustment at the ripe old age of 30 in being private bus-ed to work. However for sanity’s sake, I’ll make sure the adjustment settles in soon, because this DEFINITELY beats squeezing on the train ride to work every morning.
