My Daddy loves, absolutely loves good food.

He’s an excellent cook too and had his own restaurants in NY.

Over the years, his penchant for cooking Asian cuisine has lead him on a wanderlust -gastronomic journey all over Asia, particularly China.

However now, he says the best meals are the simplest, home cooked dishes with the family huddle together at the dining table.

I, unfortunately did not inherit his culinary skill, so for Father’s Day – we always head out for a meal!

This year, we chose the reasonably price Crystal Jade Jiangnan, which featured a variety of local dishes from the Jiangnan region (Shanghai, Nanjing, Ningbo, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, and Shaoxing), more commonly known dishes would be xiao long bao (steamed bun)  and mian (Chinese noodle).

The ordering was left to Dad and he made sure the table was filled with our adored Jiangnan dishes – xiao long baos were not spared, we went original rather than choosing the flavored xiao long baos; and of course there was the mandatory dan dan mian (Chinese noodle with chili oil, minced pork, preserved vegs and scallions).
Once the plates were cleared out came a bowl of tang yuan (glutinous rice balls, 3 to be exact for each of us) in ginger soup – according to Dad he chose this dessert to symbolize ‘family togetherness’ and to show how grateful he is on Father’s Day to have us with him.

Always, Always with you, Papa. I love you so so much and can only wish I can be half as wonderful as you are to me, Mum, and all those you love dearly and so unconditionally.
