My 外婆 loved

…bright auspicious colors

…house filled with loud banter, noise, and laughter’s of her children, grandchildren and great children

…feasting and having that occasional can of tiger beer

But above all, she loved life and everyone within her life

Oh, how she loved and cared for everyone of us so, unconditionally.

We won’t see her sitting on the wooden chair near the main door anymore, nor will she grab onto my hands and hold it tight as she speaks to me softly in Hokkein. Neither will she be here to witness the other chapters of my life – or those of her other grandchildren and great grandchildren. Still, she will live on in our hearts for as long as we shall live.

Her passing away has impacted us all – it taught some of us to embrace each other with open hearts, to cherish the present, and to be grateful to be a part of this big family (and all of it’s dramas heh).

外婆, I love you very much and despite not being able to bear the reality of your passing, a huge part of me is happy to know you are free from pain and suffering. Always in my heart, forever and ever.
