A director’s 12 year struggle to produce a local film portraying Taiwan’s history – Wushe Incident, the last attempt to banish Japanese forces in Taiwan during the 1930s.
In 2003, Wei produced a 5 minutes documentary to garner financial support from investors for the production of Seediq Bale, which was an unsuccessful attempt. With the sweeping popularity of Cape No. 7, he managed to secure funds to continue with production in 2009, it’s been rumoured that Jay Chou has secretly funded Wei for this highly-anticipated “guo pian” – which has also received nomination for the 68th Venice International Film Festival.
